Mycelium is the vegetative part of the mushroom which forms dense fibers into the substrate and is responsible for the absorption of nutrients from the substrate. Mycelium forms a fiber network like plant roots and binds the material together. Mycelium growth can be coaxed to build structures with desired properties, by controlling the substrate composition and growth parameters. These structures form the basis of our packaging products. NatureWorks aims to develop unique bio-fabrication methods to optimize the mechanical, longevity, and biodegradable properties of mycelium material which will allow us to cater to different industries and their specific material property requirements.
